China City in Kent has been bought by Szechaun Gourmet from Cleveland.  Although the China City owners are still working the front of the house, the chef has been brought in by Szechaun Gourmet.  Just about the only change is the chef, the decor and even the signs still say China City.  We went there for lunch to give Leo a first try at their food.  The verdict was very good.  We ordered Beef with Cumin and Whole Fish with Bean Paste.  Since we both love spicy food, they were both great.

Even for lunch, the place was hustling and bustling.  Waiters ran between the kitchen, the front and the customers non stop.  It actually felt a bit too hectic.  It was not even full but the waiters looked busy and walked briskly.  With three of them, I can’t say the service was prompt but they were all very polite and tried their best.  There must be some things that still need to be ironed out to run smoothly as a restaurant.  But the main thing is the food and it’s very good.  A lot of oriental people were there and you can tell it is because the food is authentic.

We will be going back soon.

Ryan brought flowers home for Elim and they shared with us.  He also brought sun flowers for me when they went shopping at the Farmer’s market Saturday.  We got a new fridge and kept the old one in the garage for them.  And we filled the new fridge in no time, there is even overflow of abundance in the spare fridge.  Good and fresh produce in abundance.

Just got on the juice and smoothie wagon. I have made smoothie before for brunch and it actually can keep me full for hours. It’s easy as an on the go meal, especially those days I have ballroom lessons. It gives me the energy I need for the dancing and it’s easy to consume from a big tumbler in the car.

I stumbled on Dan McDonald‘s youtube chanel about a week ago and it started my motivation to try the green juice and smoothie again. I even got all his DVDs to saturate myself in his way of life style and be more familiar with the concept. Now I am onto books to learn more about it.

I have always liked the taste of the raw vegetables and fruits smoothie. When I add flaxseed meal to it, it is filling and keeps me full for a while. I like that. Today, I made a green juice from Norman Walker’s book “ Fresh Vegetables and Fruit Juices” and it tasted so good. I could actually feel the nutrients getting into my system.

I hope I can stay on this raw food diet even as a supplement. I don’t want to go the extreme to be 100% raw food but if I can have this for all but one meal for the day, I would be really happy.

It’s Friday and again we have a gorgeous weather. Since we haven’t been to Bruntwood Tavern for a while, we decided to go for lunch and then take a stroll by the river. The scenery is again very nice, I took a picture right from where we sat. Lunch was tasty, Salmon with roasted vegetables and a Blueberry Vodka drink called ‘Jack and Jill’.

After lunch, we took a walk by the river. We saw some people getting ready for an event, probably rocking on the river. And we discovered a boardwalk right by the river and took it back to the restaurant. Life is good.

Leo was going to golf today but at the last minute cancelled the plan.  So we went for a short stroll at the Kent Hiking Trail.  The entrance is only 5 minutes drive from home and the weather cannot be any better.

The hike worked up our appetite and Panera’s Chicken Salad with Avocado was perfect for the bill.

The photo album for this trip can be found here.

Started to try eating healthy lately. We had salad tonight for dinner. I used to think salad is not filling nor appetizing. But today, when we have lots of fresh and colorful vegetables, a home made salad dressing and good company, it’s exciting and filling.

I have been watching some youtube videos on raw food diet. All of the long time raw diet ‘gurus’ are very thin but not ‘healthy’ looking. Ryan told me that you need protein to build muscle, maybe that’s why they don’t have the ‘muscle’ look that defines healthy for most of us. But I do believe that raw food can help us balance the insane amount of meat and junk food we have been eating all our lives. I won’t be a 100% raw food person, but I hope I can be more than 50% and keep up with it for the long run.

Ever since I was introduced to Midori notebooks and covers, I have been fascinated by them. After trying a brown Midori for a while, I finally got to experience it first hand. And when I watched on youtube how people use theirs and tried some of the ideas in mine, I am hooked. Now I have some beautiful faux-doris by Jennifer Harvey from ChickSparrow.

In addition to the covers, I am also addicted to making my own notebooks, printing them, cutting them and binding them myself. I can create my own graph lined notebooks any size I want and as many as I need whenever I need them. Then there are the pens, I love Jetpens.com and goutletpens.com. From them I found the pens I enjoy using and fell in love with fountain pens again.

It’s an addiction and obsession the way I discovered all my hobbies. I am totally immersed in it and read and watched and bought and tried everything I can. I am loving the hand-written journalling for the first time. And there is something about it that entices me back time after time. It’s a romance and an addiction. A good addiction.
