Daniel told us about this new hot pot restaurant located between Kent and Ravenna, right across from Walmart at the New Year’s lunch.  So we went and tried it out 2 days later.

The place is huge.  This day, there were only 2 tables of customers.  One came before us, and they seemed to know what to do with a spread of entries on their table for two with a coconut drink.  We were brand new to this and ordered the lunch special.  Leo got chicken and I got fish.  We both ordered the spicy broth.  It was quite an experience.  First of all, we are not used to the bubbling steam constantly coming from the pot, the server kept telling us to turn it up and we kept turn it down so it won’t splash and hurt our eyes.  Well, it was not a good experience for Leo.  The food was too hot for him, and the chopsticks were so slippery, food kept sliding out and dropped back into the pot or the plate in front of you which is also full of the broth.  So, in the end, his shirt is literally a hot mess.

We didn’t mind the spiciness.  But the cloves and the bay leaf, and other peppers and spices are not pleasant to eat mixed with the food you cook in there.  I think they should provide a thong to pick things up, and they should put all the spices in a cloth bag that won’t get into the food you are cooking in the pot.  Then it will be perfect.  I will go back and try it again and just order the simple broth base, I can use their condiment island (which is full of sauces and condiments) to add flavor to the food for dipping.  Leo, I’m not so sure he will get the hotpot again.  He thinks he will order General Tzo’s chicken instead.  🙂

We got a wall calendar that has lots of coupons to the local businesses.  After tossing a coin, we decided to go to Wild Goats.  They have taken away the counter and put in more seats.  We were seated at a small table while there were plenty of larger tables available.  Not sure why.  It’s probably meant for single person.  But the service was good, and we liked the food too.  The place has been updated a bit and looked nicer now.  Leo said he likes it and will try to come back more often.  Hopefully, we’ll get a roomier table next time.

It’s been a while since we visited the best hamburger place in Akron, Louie’s.  So we decided to go there for lunch.  The place is the same.  Even after the lunch hour crowd, it’s still busy with people coming in all the time.  We both ordered burgers.  The service was great.  The hamburger though was a bit dry.  There is no pink in the center for a medium.  I still ate mine and Leo liked his.  But this is the first time that the burger was not great.  The flavor was still good, but it was over cooked.  They were very gracious though, I just asked if the burger is cooked like that as medium so I can order medium-rare next time.  They apologized and took $3 off our bill.  The visit was pleasant, the only regret is the over cooked burger for me.  I have never had one that I didn’t like there until now.  Hope it was just a fluke.

Had coffee at the corner coffeehouse on the way back.  This place is getting popular.  It’s almost always full when we go now.  It’s great for the business, but bad for us.  It’s chancy if we can find a place to sit and have a cup of coffee now.  What can you do?

This house still has the Christmas decorations on its lawn.  And it is a known location in the neighborhood every year.  They are always filling their lawn with lights and figures.

The iphone couldn’t take a steady picture from the car.  But it still captured the beautiful sunset colors on our way to Sandy’s for dinner.

Sandy and Daniel surprised us with more than the paella, there were appitizers, tofu dish, and a soy bean with greens dish.  And a small cake for Leo.  As always, she goes all out with a table of dishes  And we all had a good time.  It is a very pleasant Saturday.
