Ever since I was introduced to Midori notebooks and covers, I have been fascinated by them. After trying a brown Midori for a while, I finally got to experience it first hand. And when I watched on youtube how people use theirs and tried some of the ideas in mine, I am hooked. Now I have some beautiful faux-doris by Jennifer Harvey from ChickSparrow.

In addition to the covers, I am also addicted to making my own notebooks, printing them, cutting them and binding them myself. I can create my own graph lined notebooks any size I want and as many as I need whenever I need them. Then there are the pens, I love Jetpens.com and goutletpens.com. From them I found the pens I enjoy using and fell in love with fountain pens again.

It’s an addiction and obsession the way I discovered all my hobbies. I am totally immersed in it and read and watched and bought and tried everything I can. I am loving the hand-written journalling for the first time. And there is something about it that entices me back time after time. It’s a romance and an addiction. A good addiction.

It’s L’s de-saudi-ization vacation.  We spent a week in Punta Cana’s Majestic Elegance.   Compared to Windhm in Cozumel, this one has a much better beach and the suite in the Adults only section is also better.  We can see the beach from our room (a junior suite) and we can sit out on the patio to read and just vege out.  The room service is free and the food is good.  It also has a elegance club lounge that provides snacks and drinks at all times plus internet access and a printer.  A conciere is always on duty too.

We had a relaxing week doing nothing more than eating, drinking, reading, sleeping, dancing and for me knitting.  That was the best part.  Food is plentiful and we can pig ourselves out any time.  Drink is free and flowing if you want it 24/7.  Most of the staff is friendly, some are cheerful.  But after a few days, you do want new things other than the 100 items that offer in the 6 restaurants.  Can we be greedier?  But really, you get steaks, hamburgers, pastas, sea food, etc.  All the standard food things you can think of, but they taste the best OK and not great.  They don’t have top shelf liquor, they hide absolute and Doers under the counter and only bring them out if you ask for them.  But I think that’s normal in any resort.

The one thing that down grade this hotel for me is their business ethics which showed up when they messed up our reservation and gave us a junior suite instead of the ocean front suite.  I think they overbooked for the week and they attempted to put us in a junior suite with no view of the ocean after a 30 minute wait for the room.  When we inquired about the ocean view, they made us wait for an hour and a half more and moved up directly up 2 floors so we can see the ocean but alas, it’s still not the suite we booked for.  At this point, they didn’t say anything and we thought it was what we booked.  On the 3rd day, they called us and said we are gettting 2 25-minute massages for each of us but we had to go down and sign a paper with our passport numbers.  When we got down and read the letter, we finally realized that they gave us the less expensive suite and wanted to make sure we are not going to pursue any legal actions by offering the massages only.  I declined the offer and said we would rather move to the correct suite.  That’s how they came back with another offer to refund the difference with the free massages.  We did sign the letter and got the free massages.  But now we are dealing with the travel agency we signed up for the resort to get the refund.  And that’s a hassle.

So this ordeal puts a black mark on this resort for me.  If they are truly the 5 star resort, they should have offered the refund and then the free massage would be accepted with gratitude.  But they tried to use the free massage as the compensation (the cheapest service on the sheet for their spa) and stressed that we can use any other service in the spa but we had to pay for the difference.  That gave me a bad taste in the mouth and put a tint on everything else they offered there.  Instead of fixing the mistake, they tried to dodge the expense too.

Punta Cana is obviously poor outside the resorts.  So there is not much ‘town’ to go out to.  Fortunately, this resort offers nightly entertainment outside with a band and staff to dance with the guests.  It jazzes up the night instead of pigging yourselves out and go back to your room to sit some more.  L and I got to dance a lot when we were there and L said he was beginning to truly enjoy dancing for the first time.  He was true to his words and volunteered to participate in any dancing activities we happened on.   It may also have to do with the amount of alcohol he consumed at the time.  He went overboard one night but fortunately no hangovers the next day.  I ‘worked’ the bar one night letting myself go and talked to the bartenders and the guests around the bar, joking and got some free peanuts for us.  I have to thank S for her training in the earlier years we went out together.  She is a master at striking up conversations with the bartenders and strangers around us and have a great time at it.  I can only do that once in a great while when my mood is right.

The trip back was a nightmare.  We spent about 3 hours at the Punta Cana airport getting our boarding pass.  They were not efficient at all at the counter and the ride that took us to the airport dropped us at the wrong terminal and we got to the wrong lines couple of times before we finally stood in the airline lines to get our boarding pass.  And we just cleared the custom check point before we realized that we were standing at the end of the line that is heading towards our plane already.

So we had a light breakfast, no lunch, had to clear the custom and got picked to have our luggages checked and went through the security check again before we got to our gate and got our boarding pass for the flight home.  We were hungry and L went and got some Wendy’s food, but they forgot to give him the drink.  That set him off finally and broke his watch band yet again.  He had to finish his chili on the plane as they were boarding by the time we got our food.

So the travel was horrendous, the hotel was good but not great, the weather was OK for the most part but overcast and windy for a few days.  I can only say it was an OK vacation, not a great one.   I was ready for some R&R time, I guess I had better expectations for it than what we got.  but I am glad we did it and it broke the winter blues at least.

I am glad we are home now.  Life is back to normal, pets are sleeping around me again at night.  I have better programs to watch and knit too.  Time to plan our next trip.  Ha ha.

Made the “traditional” Chinese Thanksgiving this year.   A dish for each chicken, duck, fish, beef and pork.  Took me about two days from shopping to dishes.  Not too bad.  Em came over early and vacuumed for me.   I had time to take a nap even in the afternoon before the final push.  Ey had allergy attack again from staying more than a couple of hours here with the cats.  He barely can eat and fled.  We took the pumpkin cheesecake to Em’s to finish the meal.  Poor kid.  I have such guilt every time he comes over.  sigh.

On a lighter note, C asked me to go to Cash Bash with her and met with a couple of lady friends before for drinks and appetizer.  I had a BALL with these ladies.  They cracked me up and I was thoroughly embarrassed with the bold talk they had too.  I laughed till tears came out.  One of them carry a fart noise maker to prank.  Such fun ladies to be with.  And I didn’t think I would dance much since it’s been a long time I went and even danced socially west coast and hustle.  But I got to dance a lot and watched a lot of good dancers compete and in the end, I even danced with a pro.  It’s such a joy to dance with John Lindo.  He has such a genuine smile when he dances with you.  And he is like that with every lady he danced with.  And he can make things happen even if you don’t quite catch his lead and makes you feel so good that your inability didn’t show.  Oh, what a joy.

I really do miss this kind of lead and follow dance.    Followers have to be always on her toes for the upcoming lead and even embelish when she can.  Leaders have to make things happen and not bore the follower he’s dancing with.  I only wish I am a lot better dancer than I am.  Dancing is so much fun!!!

Last night after the Olive Garden dinner with the Gethering Place group, Leo and I and Millie went to Rockside Holiday Inn to do a little dancing.   It’s been a long time since I last went there, and it’s surprising to see so many hustle dancers out on a Wednesday night.  I had a ball dancing with a lot of old friends and some new people.  When you dance with someone who is a good dancer, the enjoyment is hard to describe.  Of course, it’s all lead and follow so you have to be on your toes paying attention to the indication of a turn or a change of direction or a hold.  But when you meet the challenge and the dance is pulled off with mutual satisfaction, the joy is unbeatable.  And I had a few dances like that last night.

I even got Millie on the dance floor and danced a few songs, some with me and some with a friend I asked to lead her east coast swing.  She is not like an 80 year old for sure!!!  She wears contact lenses, she wears the bluetooth headset, she has the fake nails done, she has make up on and she is sharp as a nail.  Her memory is better than I could ever be.  And she dances.  And she can hold her liquor too.  I wish I can be as mobile as she is if I get to her age.

After getting Daniel and Sandy from the airport and dropped them off at home, we got home after midnight.  And both of us are tired today.  I had a lesson with Tim also.  And his lesson is as extranuous as any exercise regiman.  He said I’ll get the work out one way or the other, if not at the gym, it would be from his lesson.  And he did work me solid for an hour.  We went through the latin dances and Foxtrot and Waltz and then reviewed our west coast and east coast routines.  It was great.  I would dance as an exercise any time.  My legs are a bit sore tonight from so much dancing but my spirit is high and I feel alive again after a few months of  lethargic life after the operation, this is quite a welcomed change of pace.

On the flip side, I don’t come back here as often as I get more active.  Last week was spent going over to Sandy’s and walk Ben Ben and keep him company, and that’s a few hours during the day.   Days can pass so fast like that.  You have one thing that’s planned and then you pick up a few things at the grocery stores and that’s the day.  I can relate a little now to the saying that the more you do the more alive you feel.  And when I have more physical activities like dancing or going to the gym, I do feel more alive.

Still trying to decide whether I would compete in September or dance in the showcase in October or neither or both and also need to decide when to go and visit mom again this year.  Maybe I’ll try leaving from New York this time.  It’s a shorter flight from Cleveland to New York and there are some great fares to get.  Life is getting busy again.

Went with Sandy and Daniel to Azteca for Mexican food last night.  Actually, it was the blue margurita that we went for.  Sandy, Leo and me finished one and a half pitcher of it.  The last time Leo and I went, we each had a jumbo blue margurita and we could hardly walk when we were done with our meal.  So that’s our agreement we won’t get the jumbo one again unless someone else is driving. Daniel has been the designated driver wherever he goes since he couldn’t drink.  So it worked out for all of us.  After we got back to Sandy’s, both of us wanted to dance.  She suggested Grotto, and Daniel finally agreed to go.  The band was playing the 80s music very good for free style dancing.  Sandy and I danced up a storm, I dragged leo down for a couple of songs too.  And he was doing fine.

I haven’t gone social dancing for a long, long time.  I kind of missing the fun.  It would be great if some westcoast or hustle dancer were there.  Maybe I’ll go back to the Friday night at the Rockside some time and see if I still can dance west coast.

Today, Leo and I did the grocery shopping and when we came home, he turned on the PGA and I started spinning the alpaca.  Finished the first batch (4oz) later and decided to rip some VHS tape for Connie.  I’ve got these tapes from here for a couple of weeks now, need to get moving on them more.

Along the way, I feel so blessed that I can do all the things I love to do, knitting, spinning, dancing at this time of my life.  It really is the fun time in life as Leo said.  The hard working years are behind us and we are looking foward to a fun and relaxing life together.

It’s week 7 of Cleveland’s Dancing with the Stars on News Channel 5 Good Morning Cleveland.   There are only 5 couples left and they are all doing pretty well.   Minas is still going strong.  They are doing Hustle this week.  And oh the 70’s costumes are coming out with a vengence.

Minas, Esther and Rachel were also on Chanel 3 Good Company this morning demonstrating Salsa and taught the host how to do it.  They looked great and it was a good ad for the studio.

Trying out twitter and facebook.  It’s a whole new world.  Got Leo to get on and try it too.  he he

It is a good vehicle for the studio to create interests and following with twitter.  I am following some famous people I know and it’s interesting to see what they are doing throughout the day.  I can see it being useful for business.

Uploaded some videos to my site and youtube.  Mostly the routines Tim and I have been working on.    I’m putting my website URL in my email signiture now, I want to keep things updated.   Maybe I’ll spend some time to add more contents to my site too.

Went downstairs after my morning coffee to practice the backwards spin in my rumba routine.  I have not been able to do it yet with Minas.  So I decided to practice by myself.  I found it helpful if I slow everything down and try to understand how to adjust my weight as the body moves.  If what Diana said is true, and I believe her, nobody is born with good balance.  It’s gained by practice, practice and practice.  So I did.

And it worked.  I did improve.  Not by much, but a little has been gained.  The one leg swipe that starts the spin is a hard one to grasp.  My body starts twisted the wrong way and the leg helps to give it momentum to start spinning backwards CCW.  I treid half spin first.  It was kind of, just kind of easy.  But when I tried to increase to a full spin, I always lose my balance to the outside.

Finally, after my leg was getting tired, I decided to use the bar edge to imitate Minas’s hand support.  Surprisingly, it helped a lot.  I was able to feel the need to raise my center of gravity up with that swiping leg drawing upwards at the end and stay up a bit longer.  I still haven’t got it down yet.  I would achieve a good one, once in a great while.  As I did it correctly the last time, I stopped practicing.  I wanted to end it with a good note and let my body remembers that correct movement.  No guaratee it will reproduce it on demands but the more correct one I do, the better I’ll be.

As with any profession, there are skills/knowledge within each one.  It takes time to learn the tricks and there are lots of trials and errors and frustrations.  But the sweet taste of momentary success cheers you on to finally master the skill or obtain the knowledge.

The weather is very mild today in the 50’s.  I took Benny for a longer walk around the other side of stonewater and came back by the park.   It feels so good to be able to take a deep breath and ahh the air is not freezing cold.   Even though is overcast, it’s the best temperature we have in a long while.  I love it and even had the urge to go for a hike.  Nah, I’m not really a hiking enthusiast, but it gives you that unrealistic desire when the weather gets warmer.

Thursdays and Fridays are my off days from dancing.  I feel free cause I can do anything I like and there is no schedule to adhere to.  If I decide to take a longer walk with Benny, I can.  If I want to indulge in knitting or web surfing, I can.   It’s wonderful.
