Ok, I’ve tried to record something with my Sony Vaio three times.

The first time I used Propaganda and the notebook’s built in microphone.  Bad, lots of noises.

The second test, I used Propoganda and a plug-in Pioneer DM-21A mic that I got for the old Karaoke machine.  Better but still has noise.

The third test, I downloaded RecordForAll and the same Pioneer mic.  About the same.  I thought it’s a different software but it’s basically the same software but different names.  Go figure.

Next, I tried iTalk on my iphone with the iTalk Sync on the Macbook air.  Here is the result.

Test with iTalk

Ironically, the iphone test comes out the most clear.  So, should I just record with my iphone and import it into propaganda or Record for All to make the final product?  Hmmm.

Ah, I need to try to record on the Mac, too.

I’ve been listening to Brenda Dayne’s Cast-On podcast lately.  Accidentally I ran across it on iTunes and liked it and downloaded all of the episodes to my iPhone and just turn it on whenever I am driving or knitting or spinning.  She has a very soothing voice and it’s like a friend sitting across the table, sipping a cup of tea and carrying on a very casual but interesting conversation with you.  I am very surprised how professional she sounds, her voice reminds me of 102.2’s Delila who plays sappy love songs and talk to people who just broke up with others or has a message for their love ones.

In the first few episodes, she talks about the software she uses, sometimes complains about it, and the pod safe music she plays is very good too.  I don’t  know if I could find all those good songs if I were picking.  There are so many of them in so many categories, how ‘do’ you find those that would interest you.

But all this talk got me interested in trying to make my own podcast just to see how it’s done.  I don’t think I want to do a ‘podcast’, maybe just one recording to play with the software, insert some music, see how to put plain talking and music together.  And if I like it, I can make more.  So I downloaded Propaganda and installed it.  Played its tutorial.  Now I need to plan the outline and see what music I can find.  It’s going to be a fun process, I hope.  And I’ll try to document it.

The day started off pretty good with sun shining in the morning.  I went to the 2nd followup for the surgery.  The doctor said everything was going well and I am allowed to slowly build my exercise level back up.  Leo and I went to Luna’s for the $1.99  house breakfast.  The coffee is almost as much as the breakfast.   We both liked it cause breakfast is breakfast.  Nothing is really that different for scrambl eggs or home fries or the toast.  I like these meals as we eat and talk at leisure.  Or in the morning when we drink our coffee and talk at leisure now that he doesn’t need to rush into work in the morning any more.  He always makes coffee for me in bed.  I know, I know.  I’m royally spoiled.

After brunch, the weather was looking gloomy with the threat of rain.  Leo went to the trail trying to find his glasses and I stayed home and waited for some phone calls.  In the mean time, I got the throw out and found a new podcast (Cast-on) and listened to the last episode.  I like Brenda’s style of talking, she’s very soothing and friendly so I decided to subscribe to her podcast and downloaded all the episodes so I can listen while I knit or clean.  Also got the 3rd book of the Twilight series from Audible.  Now I’m all loaded and ready with the iphone.

Oh, yeah.  Leo found EveryTrail fo the iphone very interesting and has been using it whenever he goes hiking.  It can not only record your route but also allows you to take a photo and also remembers where the photo was taken, it then shows the elevation and the time you take for the hike.  Very, very impressive for a free app.

Later on, I came downstairs and ripped another video tape and burned a couple of DVDs.  This free form kind of day is just so easy to get into with no pressure or stress, and yet you are getting things done and productive and also learning and entertaining yourself at the same time.

Reading written instructions for a pattern is slow and painful for me. especially if it’s a lace work.   After working on the fan and feather throw for a few weeks, it got boring and repetitive.  So I got the bolero out.  It’s a pattern from a Treasury of Knitting Patterns called Frost Flower.  Pretty soon, it got frustrating and the progress was crawling.  I need a chart for lace patterns.   Finally got the charting paper out and was going to do it by hand. Then I wondered if there is anything on the web.  Lo and behold, I found knitchart.

It is so exciting to find something high-tech in the low-tech craft.  Leo had to wait till I finished the chart before we went out to El Campeseno.  It is easy to use and after fumbling a bit, I managed to print it as a pdf too.  The knitting progressed much faster and easier after that.  It’s a wonderful world on the web.  You can almost find anything you need.

Noticed the symbols on another blog to share the post and saw sociable in the codes. Searched and found the plugin and installed it.  Saved me a lot of work to put them in myself.   It would be useful for the website pages too.

The web world is full of excitements.

Somehow a pop up sneaked into my wordpress and every time I went to my blog, a pop up came up.  I don’t know how it got in.  But after deleting everything and reinstalled wordpress, it finally went away.  Stay away!  Hackers!

It’s a computer day today.  I worked on the WordPress bug most of the time.  After it’s solved, I added the twitter link to the website and the individual blog.

Did a tape for Connie and burned a couple of DVDs.  I didn’t heed my own advice though.  I was lazy and let the tape run as one file the whole tine, then I downloaded some files and interrupted the process and had to start from the beginning again.  Then I tried to install something and that interrupted the 2nd time, and I had to restart.  Then as if I was trying to tempt fate, I did something and interrupted it again.  The last time finally completed.  I should know better!

Tim called and we chatted a bit.  Connie called and we chatted a bit.  And that was the day.  It’s so easy for me to fall into the grove and sit in front of the comptuer all day.  Too bad, I am not making a living out of it.  But I still enjoy it.

It seems that I will have a good day and a not so good day lately. I had a good time yesterday out with Leo. We had lunch at Lih-Wah and went to Miles Market for a few groceries. We made the stop at Carabu on our way back. All was good and I was not exhausted. But today is a different story. I got up insanely early befoe 6am. Went back for a nap at 8am. And just generally feeling tired all day. Even the vitamins were not agreeing with me and gave me an upset stomach.

Anyway, twitter and facebook are both very interesting so far. I like to get on twitter and see what’s happening of those I follow. I actually like those that are more personal. We are curious beings I guess. Even though I’m friends with my kids and their friends, I actually feel like intruding in their social network. Maybe they don’t want me to see what they are dong and who they are talking to. hmmm.

Now, the list of things to learn is getting long, bbedit, quicksilver for the Mac, and autohotkey, php, mysql for the web. Talked to Leo about hosting my site from home with AT&T. If the cost is comparable, we might just do that. After all, there won’t be any restrictions or hoops to jump through when you need to try seomthing. You get to see things on the backend. From the past experirences, it’s a lot easier when you can see the whole thing.

Just remembered the embed codes for videos yesterday and tried a few pages with them. Still I need to make smaller clips otherwise it just takes too long to download and play any video. Youtube is so popular, it may be good to just put all the videos there.

Trying out twitter and facebook.  It’s a whole new world.  Got Leo to get on and try it too.  he he

It is a good vehicle for the studio to create interests and following with twitter.  I am following some famous people I know and it’s interesting to see what they are doing throughout the day.  I can see it being useful for business.

Uploaded some videos to my site and youtube.  Mostly the routines Tim and I have been working on.    I’m putting my website URL in my email signiture now, I want to keep things updated.   Maybe I’ll spend some time to add more contents to my site too.
